Chairman’s & CEO’s Message

In December 2022, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region unveiled the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint", outlining key development directions to enhance the local innovation ecosystem. This initiative, including support for strategic industries like semiconductors, aims to drive industrial development and solidify Hong Kong's status as an international centre for innovation and technology. In the 2023 Policy Address, the Chief Executive announced the establishment of the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research and Development Institute (MRDI) in 2024. MRDI, which is us, will lead collaborations among universities, research centers and industry partners to research third-generation semiconductor core technologies, leveraging the robust manufacturing industry chain and vast market opportunities in the Greater Bay Area. By providing a platform that facilitates cooperation between these sectors, MRDI empowers the industry to enhance its competitiveness in research and development, achieving "1 to N" advancements that push the boundaries of what is possible.

Through our collective efforts and shared vision, MRDI serves as a catalyst to drive microelectronics research and development in Hong Kong. By bridging the gap between innovation and implementation, we hope to shape the future of microelectronics and the establishment of MRDI represents a pivotal moment for microelectronics development in Hong Kong. Our vision is to become a leading institution supporting microelectronics development in the Asia-Pacific region, meeting the needs of global economic development and reinforcing Hong Kong's role in innovation and technology.
